wanted to love it

I really wanted to love this product. Got it for my son for Christmas when he was 7 months old. I knew he was a little too young at the time but he loved the balls which are the perfect shape for grasping and exploring. Some have bells, and one especially was cool with a shiny spinner in it which mesmerized even me.
This product seems to have everything right in a developmental toy. It's colorful, not electronic, makes sounds, has differently colored balls which are easy to grasp and can teach colors, and teaches tracking (it's not too fast) as well as cause and effect of course. And for the adult, it seems like it could occupy a child for a good amount of time (and since time and sleep are precious to parents of very young ones that is a good thing), and another plus is that the pieces separate for easier storage.
The kids who had the most fun with this toy at that time were the 3 and 6 year old kids but for their age, might as well get the marble run type sets where they can learn cause and effect by building their own track and problem solve.
Anyway, back to the baby's experience with the toy. I figured if we just started off with one ramp level instead of two, he would be able to reach it sitting down. He was able to, but any pressure on any part of the toy whatsoever would make even the low tower crumble and fall apart. If I set up both levels, the thing would topple over and hit him on the head when there was the least it pressure on part of it.
I read another user did hot glue and duct tape. I mean if we have to use glue and duct tape for afn infant/ toddler toy, it's probably not worth paying $30 for it. Anyway, so I just figured he was too young to not pull the tower down and waited until 9, then 11 or so months. It still toppled over and crumbled and had to be re-assembled every 30 seconds-1 minute or so.
So I waited again until 12 months and then now at 14 months. It still topples over but a little less frequently. BUT here's the deal. At this age (1 and up), cause and effect is fun to learn, but the balls now move much too slowly and he grabs the balls before they roll down the ramp into the next ramp and drops them back up top. They never make it to the bottom. I might as well have cut a hole in the side of a container and he could drop a ball in there and retrieve it after it's rolled out.
Trust me, I really, really wanted to love this product and have given it many months for it to be useful to us and if there was a good window for use of this product, we missed it and that small of a window of opportunity for a kids' toy is not good.
Ratings breakdown: The toy was not fun for the child because he got injured while playing with it. Not fun for the adult because the adult has to keep re-building it.
It has great educational value...if it didn't fall apart all the time. If it didn't fall apart and topple over, it would get a 5. As for durability, none of the pieces are broken or cracked and they seem sturdy in and of themselves, but they are rated poor durability because of the falling apart factor which is not only annoying to adult and child, but can actually result in a child getting hurt by it. So it only gets 2 stars and mostly only because I find the balls still useful even if the ramps are no longer useful.
Next time, I'd just make a put and take out toy or carton with a hole cut in the side as an exit hold, or raise a cardboard box up as a single ramp and roll cars and balls down it for teaching cause and effect and save my $30 for the 100+ pieces of the marble race type game once they are old enough not to try to put the marbles in their mouths.

Falls apart but baby loves it so we glued it together

My son has been able to do this set from 6 months and still plays with it daily by himself at 9 months. We hot-glued the blue bottom level to the red middle level and omitted the yellow level for the moment so it is reachable while he is sitting and he is not tempted to pull himself up on it. We had to duct tape the top green level on (tape so that we can remove it to add the yellow level later on).
He loves this toy and the balls are perfectly sized for little hands, he crawls with each ball to the edge of the carpet to roll it on the wood floor, and is trying to experiment with stuffing little blocks down the track- so he is learning and expanding on this toy. I found a sippy cup upside down in the top the other day and a wiffle ball in the middle. Thumbs up!

Falls apart too easily.

My son is 11 months and does not like to play with this toy. If he puts the slightest bit of pressure on the toy to put the balls in the top, the object breaks apart. There is not a locking mechanism to keep the pieces together.
